On the topic of screenwriting tips fiction writers can use, both benefit from short, succinct openings. Screenwriters need to tighten their scene description, writers their beginnings. Review your first three pages and cut ruthlessly. I often hear editors say that if they aren’t hooked in the first page, they stop reading. Chop chop!
